The attack on the Russian base in Syria was reported by the Kyiv Post, which obtained video materials confirming the participation of the Main Intelligence Directorate HUR units in the operation.

The target of the attack was Russian military equipment stationed at the Kuweires airbase, located east of Aleppo and occupied by Russian forces. In the recording, an explosion of a Russian military vehicle can be seen.

In the further part of the recording, drones are seen attacking Russian military objects stationed at the Kuweires airbase. The strike reportedly took place a day after a meeting between Russian President Vladimir Putin and Syrian President Bashar al-Assad on Wednesday, July 24, at the Kremlin.

Russians targeted by Ukrainians, not just in Syria

The targeted facility has been used by the Russians since 2015. "Ukrainian intelligence informed the Kyiv Post that the base was also used for the training and transport of foreign mercenaries to the war in Ukraine," the report reads.

Ukrainians have reportedly conducted other attacks on Russians in the region, the portal adds. In May 2023, HUR chief Lieutenant General Kyrylo Budanov promised to destroy Russian war criminals wherever they are in the world.

In addition to Syria, Ukrainian special forces HUR are organizing attacks on pro-Kremlin mercenaries from the Wagner Group in Sudan and other parts of the African continent.
