Ukrainian military corruption: 110th Brigade bribery scandal

Scandal in the 110th Brigade of Ukraine's Armed Forces. The deputy commander accepted bribes from soldiers to purchase luxury real estate, plots in Bukovel, and a car. Authorities confiscated nearly 7 million hryvnias (about CAD 260,000) from his apartment.

The State Bureau of Investigation of Ukraine (DBR) reported the case. The statement highlighted that at the end of December 2024, DBR employees charged the deputy commander of this unit, and by January 2025, his associate, the commander of the material supply group, was also charged.

They were listed in the unit but did not fight on the frontline

Investigators determined that the subordinate soldiers might not have appeared for duty, only nominally listed in the unit. At the same time, they received full salaries and combat pay for supposedly completed tasks on the frontline. However, the soldiers had to hand over half the money they received to the command.

Law enforcement is investigating at least 50 people who might have been involved in this scheme.

Millions of hryvnias from soldiers

The criminal activities of the commanders were revealed by one of the subordinates, who reported to law enforcement. He took a bag containing various currencies amounting to 1.5 million hryvnias (about CAD 55,000) from the deputy commander, which was received as a bribe.

While searching for the deputy commander's apartment in Zaporizhzhia, investigators found another nearly 5 million hryvnias (about CAD 185,000) in various currencies. They also found 17,000 US dollars (about CAD 23,000) at the residence of one of his associates in Dnipro.

The authorities also seized the deputy commander's assets: a luxury studio apartment in Odesa, which measures about 60 square metres and is near the sea; a garage, which measures about 40 square metres; an apartment in the Khmelnytsky region, which measures about 75 square metres; two plots of land in the ski resort area of Bukovel; a premium Mercedes-Benz car; bank accounts; and securities amounting to nearly 4 million hryvnias (about CAD 150,000).

The commander was arrested.
