Ukrainian Special Operations Forces (SOF) killed 21 and wounded 40 North Korean soldiers who attacked Ukrainian positions in the Kursk region in western Russia.

Intense clashes in the Kursk region

Operators of the 8th SOF Regiment of the Ukrainian Armed Forces, supported by friendly infantry, repelled the attacks of the North Korean soldiers for over eight hours. The battle involved small arms and grenade launchers, with snipers also active. In the ninth hour of the fight, due to depleted ammunition, the decision was made to withdraw the unit from the battlefield and retreat with two Humvee vehicles, according to Ukrainian services.

According to South Korean authorities, Kim Jong Un sent over 10,000 soldiers to support Russia in the war against Ukraine. In exchange, North Korea receives technological assistance for armament programs. This information was confirmed on January 6th by then-U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken during a visit to Seoul.

Antony Blinken stated that at least a thousand North Korean soldiers have been killed or wounded in the conflict on Russia's side.

The situation on the front is dynamic, and military operations continue. Ukrainian Special Operations Forces persist in their efforts, aiming to repel attacks and minimize losses.
