Trump lashes out at Bishop over sermon on migrants, LGBTQ rights
Donald Trump sharply criticized Bishop Mariann Budde for her comments during Tuesday’s National Cathedral in Washington service. Budde drew Trump’s attention to the need to protect migrants and LGBTQ people. Her words sparked a stir online, and the President of the USA did not appreciate them.
President Donald Trump called Washington Bishop Mariann Budde "malicious" after she criticized his plans for deporting undocumented immigrants and limiting the rights of LGBTQ people.
Trump described her as a "representative of the radical left" and a "staunch opponent" of his policies.
– The so-called Bishop who spoke at the National Prayer Service on Tuesday morning was a Radical Left hard line Trump hater. She brought her church into the World of politics in a very ungracious way. She was nasty in tone, and not compelling or smart. She failed to mention the large number of illegal migrants that came into our Country and killed people. Many were deposited from jails and mental institutions. It is a giant crime wave that is taking place in the USA. Apart from her inappropriate statements, the service was a very boring and uninspiring one. She is not very good at her job! She and her church owe the public an apology! – Trump wrote on Truth Social.

During Tuesday’s sermon at the National Cathedral in Washington, Budde appealed to Trump for mercy for immigrants and sexual minorities.
– In the name of our God, I ask you to have mercy on the people in our country who are scared now—gay, lesbian and transgender children in Democratic, Republican and independent families. Most immigrants are not criminals. They pay taxes and are good neighbours – emphasized Budde.
The bishop also appealed to Trump for mercy for undocumented immigrants, noting that they perform low-skilled jobs and services in the United States.
In a later interview with CNN, Budde emphasized that the groups she referred to are neighbours within the community and have been unfairly characterized negatively throughout the political campaign.
Budde explained that she intended to highlight, as thoughtfully as possible, the role these individuals hold within the community.
