The Ukrainian Unmanned Systems Forces carried out an attack on the refinery in Ryazan and the oil depot in the Tula region. These facilities are key to the fuel supply for the Russian army. According to the General Staff of Ukraine, the attack took place during the night of February 23rd to 24th, 2025.

The refinery in Ryazan, located approximately 200 kilometres southeast of Moscow, has been a target of Ukrainian attacks before. Since the beginning of the year, UAVs have attacked at least seven Russian oil refineries, including Taneko in Tatarstan, Saratov, Volgograd, a plant in the Nizhny Novgorod region, and the refinery in Ryazan twice. The Gazprom-owned Astrakhan plant, which produces fuel for southern regions, has also been targeted.

Attack on the Russian refinery. This is how the Ukrainian army operates

This time, at least five explosions were recorded, and a fire erupted in the main oil refining unit ELOU AT-6. The Ukrainian army announces the continuation of actions against strategic targets supporting Russian aggression.

The General Staff of Ukraine emphasized that combat operations will continue. Their main objective is to weaken the logistical capabilities of the Russian army.

Since last year, Ukrainian forces have been increasingly effectively using drones to target sites thousands of kilometres beyond the Russian border. This is a way to slow down the Russian advance, disrupt logistics, and force the Kremlin to limit fuel production and move weapon depots further east.
