Ukraine disables key Russian radars near Moscow
The Ukrainian military intelligence (HUR) has destroyed two Valdai radars in the Moscow region, 20 kilometres (about 12 miles) from Moscow.
During the night of February 6 to 7, 2025, an explosion occurred at military unit 52116 in Dolgoprudny, near Moscow. Two Valdai radars were destroyed, which were used for detecting and countering drones. "The explosion destroyed two Russian Valdai radars, designed for round-the-clock automatic detection and counteraction against drones," reported HUR on Telegram.
Modern Valdai radars
Valdai represents the latest achievement of the Russian military industry. It is the first model in its class to enter service in the Russian Federation army. The destroyed radars were crucial for airspace protection over Moscow.
The military unit where the radars were destroyed was responsible for the air security of the Russian capital. This information was provided by the Polish Press Agency, citing a statement from HUR. Reported from Kyiv by Iryna Hirnyk.
