U.S., Los Angeles. Firefighters battle fierce blaze threatening Pacific Palisades
The fight against the fire in Pacific Palisades, a district of Los Angeles known for its celebrity residences, is still ongoing. On Tuesday, the blaze spread to roughly 510 hectares within a few hours. Tens of thousands of residents have received evacuation orders. According to NBC News, Kamala Harris's residence is also at risk.
The fire in Pacific Palisades continues in the Los Angeles district, and hundreds of firefighters are battling the flames. Strong winds and low humidity are fueling the fire. According to forecasts, wind gusts may reach speeds from about 90 to 120 km/h, and even up to 160 km/h in some parts of Southern California.
This week, the National Weather Service (NWS) issued a "particularly dangerous situation" warning in many areas of Los Angeles and Ventura counties, where the fire is raging. The NWS issues this relatively rare decision only in extreme situations.
Joe Biden posted on social media about the fire, assuring the public that he is in constant contact with the services and that his administration will do everything in its power to provide support.
"I am being frequently briefed on the wildfires in west Los Angeles. My team and I are in touch with state and local officials, and I have offered any federal assistance that is needed to help suppress the terrible Pacific Palisades fire," he added in a post on platform X.
"We are deeply grateful for the heroic first responders"
As reported by NBC News, Kamala Harris's residence is also in the fire evacuation zone. The Vice President of the USA is currently in Washington.
"Doug and I are praying for our fellow Californians who have evacuated, and we are thinking of the families whose homes, businesses, and schools remain in harm’s way," Harris said in a statement. "We are deeply grateful for the heroic first responders who are risking their own safety to fight the flames and help keep communities safe," she added.
NBC News reports that Kamala Harris's home in Los Angeles is in the eastern part of the evacuation zone.
