Elon Musk stirs controversy with remarks on Trudeau
Billionaire Elon Musk continues to provoke. Following his criticisms of several world leaders, he extended the same treatment to outgoing Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau when Trudeau opposed Donald Trump's threats against Canada. "Girl, you're not the governor of Canada anymore," Musk commented.
Canada reacts strongly to Trump
"Never, absolutely never will Canada become part of the USA," Trudeau posted in French on Platform X. In the English version, he wrote more emphatically, "there isn't a snowball's chance in hell that Canada would become part of the United States."
He emphasized that workers and communities on both sides of the border benefit when Canada and the USA are the largest trade and security partners.
Trudeau's post on Tuesday marked his first strong statement in response to Trump's comments. Since winning the election in November of last year, Trump has referred to Canada as the "51st state" and accused the country of exploiting the USA economically and politically. Trudeau stepped down as the leader of the Liberal Party on Monday but will remain in his role as Prime Minister until a new party leader is chosen.
Musk provokes again, targets Trudeau
Elon Musk responded to Trudeau's statement. "Girl, you're not the governor of Canada anymore, so it doesn't matter what you say," wrote Musk, the world's richest man and a close associate of Donald Trump, in a comment on the outgoing Prime Minister's post.
The billionaire reiterated Trump's narrative, who has previously referred to the Prime Minister as a "governor," implying that Canada is akin to a 51st state of the USA.
Trump announced a 25% tariff on Canadian goods, stating on Tuesday that the USA does not need to import automotive goods from Canada, nor lumber and dairy products. According to American data, in 2022, Canada exported goods valued at approximately 614.3 billion Canadian dollars to the USA. The USA is also the largest importer of Canadian oil.
