TUI flight attendant hospitalized after plane door mishap
An unusual situation occurred at East Midlands Airport in England. A TUI airline employee had to be taken to the hospital after falling through the plane's door.
The flight attendant opened the door of the plane while preparing for takeoff, thinking the stairs were still attached. In reality, they had already been removed, causing the woman to fall onto the tarmac.
The flight attendant was immediately transported to the hospital
- She opened the door, took a step out and the stairs that were supposed to be there were not there for whatever reason. She fell to the tarmac and I heard she was seriously injured - recounted a witness to the incident, quoted by The Sun. The flight attendant was immediately transported to Queen's Medical Centre in Nottingham.
- We received a call at 4.31pm on 16 December to a medical emergency at East Midlands Airport. We sent a paramedic in a solo response car and an ambulance. The air ambulance was also in attendance. One patient was taken by ambulance to Queen’s Medical Centre - confirmed a representative from the East Midlands Ambulance Service. The Air Accidents Investigation Branch (AAIB) is investigating the incident.
Authorities are currently investigating the circumstances of the incident
- An accident which occurred at East Midlands Airport on Monday 16th December was notified to the AAIB. An investigation has been launched and inspectors have visited the airport to gather evidence and make enquiries to understand more about the circumstances - informed the AAIB spokesperson.
The incident occurred on Monday, December 16th - when a TUI crew member was injured during the preparation of the plane for departure. East Midlands Ambulance Service arrived on the scene and took the injured party to the hospital. We wish her a speedy recovery and will cooperate with all parties involved in the investigation - said Simon Hinchley, the East Midlands Airport's Chief Operations Officer.
