Trump's strategic dialogue could signal new path to peace
"GREAT TALKS WITH RUSSIA AND UKRAINE YESTERDAY," Donald Trump summarized in a Thursday post on the social media platform Truth Social. He added there's a "POSSIBILITY OF ENDING THAT HORRIBLE, VERY BLOODY WAR."
Donald Trump spoke by phone with Vladimir Putin on Wednesday. "I just had a lengthy and highly productive phone call with President Vladimir Putin of Russia. We discussed Ukraine, the Middle East, Energy, Artificial Intelligence, the power of the Dollar, and various other subjects," Trump wrote that day on the social media platform Truth Social.
According to Trump, both leaders agreed that they want to stop the death of Russian and Ukrainian soldiers in the war in Ukraine. They also agreed to start peace negotiations immediately, which will be conducted by appropriate teams.
Trump assured that he would promptly call Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky to inform him about the outcomes of the conversation with Putin.
Shortly thereafter, Zelensky himself conveyed information on the matter. "I had a meaningful conversation with [President Trump]. We long talked about opportunities to achieve peace, discussed our readiness to work together at the team level, and Ukraine’s technological capabilities—including drones and other advanced industries. I am grateful to President Trump for his interest in what we can accomplish together," Zelensky reported on Telegram.
Meanwhile, Trump wrote: "I just spoke to President Volodymyr Zelenskyy of Ukraine. The conversation went very well. He, like President Putin, wants to make PEACE."
On Thursday, the U.S. President once again addressed the talks from Wednesday. "Great conversations yesterday with the Russian and Ukrainian sides. Strong likelihood of ending this terrible, bloody war," he summarized in a post on the social media platform Truth Social.
