The federal appeals court in New York confirmed the jury's verdict that found Donald Trump guilty of sexual assault and defamation of journalist E. Jean Carroll. The court ordered Trump to pay $5 million in damages. The decision by the appeals court was unanimous.

Court decides: Trump guilty

The judges stated that Trump did not demonstrate any errors in the lower court's rulings. "We conclude that Mr. Trump has not demonstrated that the district court erred in any of the challenged rulings. Further, he has not carried his burden to show that any claimed error or combination of claimed errors affected his substantial rights as required to warrant a new trial," the appeals court announced.

E. Jean Carroll, a columnist for "Elle," testified that in the spring of 1996, Trump allegedly turned their friendly meeting into a brutal attack in the fitting room of the Bergdorf Goodman department store in New York City. Carroll presented these accusations in her 2019 book. Trump denied these allegations.
