According to Axios, members of the Danish government have privately contacted Donald Trump's team recently to discuss issues related to Greenland's security.

According to Axios, two scenarios are being considered: joint Danish-American ventures or increased American military presence on the island.

The portal cites two anonymous sources confirming this information.

Trump and his plans for Greenland

Trump, who will take office as President of the USA on January 20 (Eastern Time), has repeatedly suggested recently that his administration may seek to acquire Greenland - an autonomous territory of Denmark. The President-elect has not ruled out using military or economic means.

An island rich in resources

Greenland is of international interest due to its strategic location in the Arctic. Its territory can be used to monitor missiles launched toward the USA, for example, by Russia. In the northwestern part of the island is the American Pituffik space base.

Climate change and melting glaciers are increasing Greenland's economic significance. The island has rich deposits of oil, natural gas, and rare earth metals, making it an attractive target for many countries.
