Russian forces struck the city of Izium in the Kharkiv region in eastern Ukraine with a ballistic missile on Tuesday, resulting in the deaths of five people and injuries to 55, reported the head of the regional military authorities, Oleh Syniehubov.

A pregnant woman among the dead

"In the missile attack, which likely involved an Iskander-type missile, a 44-year-old man, a 69-year-old man, two women aged 18 and 19, one of whom was pregnant, and one man whose identity is being determined were killed" - wrote Syniehubov on Telegram.

Most of the injured are employees of the tax office, government institutions, a medical university, and other facilities.

A Russian missile struck the city centre, partially destroying the Izium City Council building and an administrative building, as well as damaging three residential buildings.

Zelensky reacts to Russia's attack

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky offered condolences to the families and friends of those killed in the attack.

"This brutality cannot be reconciled. Pressure must be exerted on Russia using as much force as possible – the force of weapons, the force of sanctions, the force of diplomacy – to stop terror and protect lives" - emphasized Zelensky.

Russian forces occupied Izium from April to September 2022, when Ukrainian forces conducted a counteroffensive and liberated nearly the entire Kharkiv region, including the cities of Kupiansk, Balakliia, and Vovchansk.
