Surveillance breach: Airport staff charged in fatal collision leak
The police in Washington are investigating how a surveillance video showing a collision between a passenger plane and a military helicopter ended up at CNN. The police have arrested two employees of Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport in connection with this case.
The arrested employees have been charged with unauthorized use of Washington airport computers and copying official files, which led to the release of the surveillance footage.
The footage, which was aired on CNN, shows the moment a Black Hawk military helicopter collided with an American Airlines plane.
It is still unclear how CNN acquired the video material.
Aviation disaster in Washington. Everyone perished
Last week, a passenger plane flying from Kansas collided with a military helicopter conducting a training flight. The incident occurred just in front of the runway at Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport in Washington.
On board the American Airlines plane were 60 passengers and 4 crew members. In the helicopter, there were three soldiers. Both aircraft fell into the Potomac River, breaking into many pieces. No one survived.
President Donald Trump is being kept informed about the ongoing findings in the case. He assessed that the disaster "could have been prevented".
