An unusual arrest occurred at the Jorge Chávez International Airport in Lima, Peru. A 28-year-old South Korean citizen was attempting to smuggle over 400 venomous spiders and centipedes. Airport authorities noticed the man’s suspiciously swollen abdomen, which prompted them to conduct a further search.

During the search, it was discovered that the man had 320 spiders, 110 centipedes, and nine bullet ants on him. The creatures were hidden in ziplock bags containing filter paper strapped around his body. All belonged to dangerous species, including tarantulas and scolopendra.

The animals were returned to the National Forestry and Wildlife Service (SERFOR). The authorities have launched an investigation into the illegal trade in these endangered species, which is worth millions of dollars.
