The investigation, led by the cybercrime police division, began on December 26, 2024. According to Channel 12 television, Sara Netanyahu allegedly commissioned an online intimidation campaign targeting her husband's opponents. One target was Hadas Klein, a key witness in one of the three criminal cases against Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.

Israel's Attorney General, Gali Baharav-Miara, announced an inquiry into witness harassment and obstruction of justice. Naama Lazimi, a lawmaker from the left-leaning Democratic Party, stressed that official confirmation of the investigation is vital for maintaining the rule of law.

Sara Netanyahu and previous controversies

Sara Netanyahu has been accused of improperly using state funds in the past. In 2019, she entered a plea deal with the prosecution, admitting guilt in a case involving expenses for pre-prepared meals despite having a chef at the prime minister's residence.

Benjamin Netanyahu, who served as prime minister from 2009 to 2021, resumed office at the end of 2022. The current investigation into his wife could impact his political standing.
