Russian disinformation floods web amid Ukrainian counteroffensive
The Russians have launched a disinformation campaign related to the Ukrainian counteroffensive in the Kursk region. Putin's military and propagandists are attempting to post videos and photos online suggesting massive losses for Kyiv in actions conducted on Russian territory, reports the German newspaper "Bild."
The newspaper reports that the web is being flooded with brutal recordings showing Ukrainian losses. "They show what dictator Vladimir Putin cynically described as a 'worthy response' to the 'terrorist' Ukrainian surprise attack," the newspaper writes.
One of the methods used by Russian propaganda is to display killed soldiers in a particular manner. According to the newspaper, the recordings are meant to be as brutal as possible and include as many identifying marks as possible—unit emblems or documents. "Everything is to be staged," it reads.
Simultaneously, the Russians have intensified their actions in the Sumy region, which is on the Ukrainian side of the border. The main targets of the attacks are residential buildings and critical infrastructure sites. The Kremlin aims to impact the morale of Ukrainians, which is bolstered by the army's success in the Kursk region.
Putin's troops are also not slowing down in the Donbas, where the Russians have approached within 10 kilometres of Pokrovsk. Local authorities call on residents to evacuate, emphasizing that "the situation will only worsen."
