Rising Russian casualties in Ukraine hit record levels
The average daily number of Russian soldiers killed and injured in Ukraine in September reached its highest level since the start of the war, reports the British Ministry of Defence, citing information from the Ukrainian General Staff.
Daily, the number of killed and injured Russian soldiers in Ukraine is reaching 1,271. The previous highest average was recorded in May of this year at 1,262.
The number of casualties has been rising since the start of the war
According to the latest intelligence report, the number of killed and injured Russian soldiers since the beginning of the war has exceeded 648,000.
The increase in casualties since May is likely related to the expansion of military operations in the Kharkiv region in Ukraine and the Kursk region in Russia, as well as increased intensity of fighting along the front line.
Russian forces continue to attempt to overwhelm Ukrainian forces by numerically overpowering defensive positions to achieve tactical gains.
Predictions for the rest of the year
"The Russian casualty rate is likely to remain above a thousand daily for the remainder of 2024, despite the upcoming winter. So far, winter conditions have not caused a reduction in offensive operations or a decrease in the casualty rate due to Russia's reliance on infantry and lack of manoeuvring capabilities, which require better conditions," it was written.
The latest report also includes a chart showing how the average daily number of Russian casualties has changed since March 2022, which was the first full month of the war.
