Puff pastry for Halloween

Puff pastry is a very versatile ingredient suitable for many culinary experiments. It can be filled with both sweet and savoury flavours. You can give it an unusual shape with cookie cutters. In this recipe, the cutters are pumpkins, one of the symbols of fall and Halloween.

Pumpkin snacks with ground meat

Beneath the crispy puff pastry lies a filling of ground meat with tomato sauce and cheddar cheese. This simple combination will delight all your guests. Pumpkin snacks taste good both hot and cold.

Ingredients:

  • 200 grams ground chicken or turkey,
  • 1 egg,
  • ¼ yellow bell pepper,
  • ¼ green bell pepper,
  • ¼ onion,
  • ½ teaspoon dried garlic,
  • 1 teaspoon sweet paprika,
  • ½ teaspoon curry powder,
  • ¾ teaspoon salt,
  • ½ teaspoon pepper,
  • 2 packages of puff pastry,
  • 14 teaspoons tomato sauce,
  • 70 grams cheddar cheese,
  • 1 egg yolk + 2 tablespoons milk.

Preparation method:

Step 1. Place the ground meat in a bowl. Add finely diced yellow and green bell peppers, crack in an egg, add chopped onion, dried garlic, sweet paprika, curry powder, pepper, and salt. Mix it all thoroughly and transfer to a pastry bag.

Step 2. Unroll the puff pastry on the countertop and use a cookie cutter to cut out pumpkin shapes.

Step 3. On each pumpkin, place a portion of tomato sauce and squeeze out some of the meat mixture. Place a piece of cheddar cheese on top. In the other pumpkin, cut out eyes, a nose, and a mouth, then cover the filling with it, pressing the edges.

Step 4. Place the prepared pumpkins on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper. Brush with the egg yolk mixed with milk and place in an oven preheated to 200°C. Bake for about 20 minutes.

Step 5. Serve the ready snacks with your favourite sauce. Enjoy!
