North Korean soldiers captured: A twist in Ukraine conflict
"Our soldiers have captured North Korean military personnel in the Kursk region," announced Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky on Saturday.
"This was not an easy task," he pointed out.
"Our soldiers have captured North Korean military personnel in the Kursk region. Two soldiers, though wounded, survived and were transported to Kyiv, where they are now communicating with the Security Service of Ukraine," wrote Volodymyr Zelensky on the X platform on Saturday.
The President of Ukraine noted that capturing Kim's soldiers was not simple. "This was not an easy task: Russian forces and other North Korean military personnel usually execute their wounded to erase any evidence of North Korea’s involvement in the war against Ukraine," he emphasised.
Zelensky also posted photos of the captured individuals. In them, we also see the conditions in which the prisoners are held.
"I have instructed the Security Service of Ukraine to grant journalists access to these prisoners. The world needs to know the truth about what is happening," he added.
North Korean soldiers in the Kursk region
These are the first captured soldiers from North Korea. Previously, only recordings showing their activities or the failures of their operations were available online.
According to available data, up to approximately 10,000 North Korean soldiers are said to be involved in the fighting in the Kursk region.
This week, photos also emerged confirming that, apart from military personnel, heavy equipment from Pyongyang has reached the front. Photos from the battle area showed the involvement of North Korean Koksan M-1989 howitzers.
