Mystery photo of wilted aloe leaves stuns social media

"Foreigners," "Unknown, mysterious sea monsters," "Aliens," "Spiders," and "Extraterrestrials" — these are the terms internet users employed to describe what Jan Vorster photographed on a beach in South Africa. No one realized what it indeed was.

Internet users couldn't believe it when they found out what was really in the photo.

Although the photo was taken three years ago, it is still shared on social media, and it leaves a significant impression every time it appears.

Surprising effect in the photo

Jan Vorster captured an image causing quite a stir on social media. It was taken at sunrise in Stilbaai, South Africa. The perspective and lighting make what he photographed appear entirely different. According to internet users, it seemed to depict sea creatures or aliens emerging from the water.

However, nothing could be further from the truth. The photos show wilted aloe leaves. Vorster shared the image to highlight environmental issues.

Internet users were frightened

Many who saw the photos panicked. Some even reacted with anger, accusing the photographer of deliberately misleading them.

"How terrifying," "I guess I'll never go to the beach again," "This picture is terrifying!" — wrote internet users. "I might have to start being careful with the aloes on my windowsill." "Attack of the killer aloes is coming soon to theatres!" joked others.
