Islamic state threat looms over major European festivals
The Islamic State of Khorasan Province is threatening attacks on major events, including the Venice Carnival, reports "Bild." The threat is serious, a security official warns.
Islamists from the Islamic State of Khorasan Province (IS-K) are threatening attacks on major events and festivals in Europe. According to "Bild," potential targets may include the Venice Carnival, Oktoberfest in Munich, the Cannes Film Festival, and the Vienna Opera Ball. These threats were published on IS-K's propaganda platform, Al Azaim Media.
"This is a terrifying call for attacks from the Islamic State to its terrorists. They are urged not to wait any longer but to carry out attacks this year," warned "Bild."
The Islamic State of Khorasan Province was responsible for the devastating attack on a Moscow concert hall nearly 10 months ago, which killed over 140 people. After attacks in the German cities of Solingen and Magdeburg, and in New Orleans (USA), security services are on high alert.
Terrorist threat in Europe
A security official explained to "Bild" why the threat should be taken seriously: - The conflict with Israel continues to cause a high level of mobilization among Islamists. Additionally, recent attacks have shown that it takes just a car or a knife. Potential attackers see this too.
"We have a dilemma. Of course, we don't want to cause panic, but we must honestly warn because the risk of a terrorist attack remains as high as ever," said the official. "Unfortunately, after the recent attacks, the probability of assaults has increased further," he added.
