Chinese onion flower. Recipe
Ingredients:
- 1 large onion,
- 1 egg,
- Salt, pepper,
- Sweet paprika powder, dried thyme,
- Rice flour (or wheat flour),
- Oil for frying,
- 50 ml of milk (about 1/4 cup).
Preparation:
- First, peel the onion from the brown skin and place it on the jar lid to keep it from moving. Then, cut the onion in a cross, trying not to cut it all the way through. The lid will help stop the blade at the right place.
- Spread the onion layers so that they resemble a flower in shape.
- Put the onion in a container with cold water and leave for an hour, ensuring the vegetable is fully submerged.
- In a separate bowl, mix the eggs, milk, and spices. Place a plate with flour nearby. Dip the dried onion in the egg and coat it with flour. Repeat this process twice.
- Heat the oil and fry the onion until golden brown. Serve the onion flower warm with your favourite sauce.
