Explosion shakes Kyiv radio studio: Presenter hospitalized
There was an explosion in a radio studio in the centre of Kyiv. A military detonator, which was supposed to be a dummy, exploded. A 26-year-old presenter was injured and taken to the hospital.
The incident occurred on Sunday in the Pechersk district, the central district of Kyiv. Investigators and explosives experts arrived at the scene to examine the circumstances of the explosion.
Preliminary investigations suggest that a military detonator, stored in the room as an exhibit, detonated. A woman born in 1999 sustained injuries and was transported to the hospital, according to Kyiv police.
Ukrainian soldier Miroslav Gai provided more details about the incident. According to his account, the explosion occurred at the Central House of Officers of the Armed Forces of Ukraine around 4:50 AM Eastern Time.
Condition of the injured
The presenter picked up a VP-9 detonator for anti-tank grenades and started playing with it, which led to the explosion.
She was transported to the hospital with shrapnel wounds. Her condition is stable, as confirmed by Miroslav Gai. The detonator, which was supposed to be a dummy, was brought into the studio by another soldier who had previously participated in the broadcast.
