Medical profiles run by healthcare professionals are becoming increasingly popular on TikTok. One such profile is Dr. Kunal Sood, a doctor from the United States, followed by over two million people. In a video, he revealed what the mysterious ringing in the ears means. Should it be a matter of concern?
What does ringing in the ears mean?
Have you ever wondered what that annoying noise you sometimes hear in your ears is? If so, the first thing you should know is that (probably) there is nothing to worry about. According to Dr. Kunal Sood, such noise is a fairly common phenomenon.
"When you're going about your business and your ear does that thing," Dr. Sood captioned the video posted.
As he explained: "It's the human equivalent of going offline."
- Have you ever experienced this? Transient ear noise, also called 'SBUTT', which stands for 'sudden brief unilateral transient tinnitus'. Thankfully, it does not mean something bad is going on, and it is pretty common with over 75 percent of people experiencing this at some point in their life - said the doctor.
Causes of ringing in the ears
According to Dr. Sood, ear ringing usually lasts a minute or less. However, if it occurs for a longer time or very frequently, you should contact a doctor. Occasional ringing in the ears can result from lack of sleep, stress, or too much coffee. However, it can also indicate an infection in the body.
"I thought all the time that it was spiritual guides trying to get my attention," "I thought it was my brain having to reset so often," "I dealt with this at least once or twice in the past year. In my case, it was caused by severe stress," - we read in the comments under the doctor's video.
