Copenhagen, the capital of Denmark, is popular among tourists. The city has decided to cater to those who choose to visit sustainably.

Copenhagen is a beloved tourist destination and one of Europe's most expensive cities. To ease the financial burden on tourists who choose to visit sustainably, the city introduced the CopenPay program. Participation is straightforward—make climate-friendly choices during your vacation in the Danish capital.

CopenPay for sustainable tourism in Copenhagen

Tourists can earn discounts on popular attractions, as well as receive free coffee, meals, and ice cream. These perks can be obtained by picking up trash, volunteering in a city garden, riding a bike instead of driving, and engaging in other environmentally sustainable behaviours.

Twenty-four attractions in the city have signed up for the program, including the Museum of Copenhagen. Here, you can get a free cup of coffee by purchasing an admission ticket if you walk, bike, or use public transportation to reach the museum. Just take a picture of your "green action" and show it to the reception staff at the entrance. You will then receive a coffee voucher on the same day in the famous museum café.

At GreenKayak, you can rent a kayak for free in exchange for helping keep the harbor clean. While paddling, collect any waste you see on the water and share your experiences on social media.

For free food and drinks, BaneGaarden offers an organic meal if you pick up trash and help protect Danish nature. The National Museum offers free ice cream, and Level Six Rooftop Bar and Terrace offers a free cold drink. The promotion includes beer, wine, or soda, which you can enjoy while admiring the stunning views from the terrace. CopenPay is available for tourists until August 11.
