Coffee is a product surrounded by many myths. Most of them have nothing to do with the truth, but it doesn't change the fact that coffee can affect our bodies in ways we might not want. Anyone can make such a mistake, so it's better to protect yourself in advance. How? For example, by reading this article, in which we cite 11 mistakes in drinking coffee listed by Dr. Bartek Kulczyński.
Do you drink coffee this way? You're harming yourself
Dr. Bartek Kulczyński has compiled all possible mistakes regarding coffee drinking. It turns out that it's important not only how much coffee we drink but also when and what we eat simultaneously. Let's take a look at this. We were intrigued because we love the black beverage and wouldn't want it to harm us!
- Coffee with sweets. Studies have shown that caffeine blocks the perception of sweet taste. This can result in a loss of control over sugar intake.
- Coffee right after waking up. Although caffeine has stimulating properties, treating it as a remedy for a sleepless night is a mistake. Drinking coffee in the morning hurts carbohydrate metabolism and can cause sudden spikes in sugar levels.
- Drinking coffee too late. Trouble falling asleep is just part of the problem. Caffeine also lowers sleep quality, so consuming it later than 6 PM is not recommended.
- Excessive caffeine consumption. Dr. Bartek Kulczyński pointed out that caffeine doses are linked to the action of certain enzymes in our body. You should observe your body's reactions to coffee rather than just following general guidelines.
- Sugar in coffee. Scientific societies do not recommend consuming more than 25 grams of sugar daily, about 6 teaspoons in 24 hours. This probably doesn't need a longer comment.
- Drinking hot coffee. This rule also applies to other fluids. The doctor noted that drinking large amounts of hot beverages significantly increases the risk of esophageal cancer.
- Coffee during reflux. Caffeine relaxes the lower esophageal sphincter and exacerbates the symptoms of reflux disease.
- Wrong roasting level of coffee beans. The nutritionist noted that the roasting process affects the amount of antioxidants in coffee. The best is lightly roasted or green coffee.
- Drinking coffee substitutes. So-called coffee drinks usually have a terrible composition. Kulczyński mentioned a product in which real coffee is... 7%.
- Coffee with milk or cream. Adding these products causes the body to less absorb the health-promoting ingredients in coffee.
- Drinking coffee while eating iron-rich foods. Coffee significantly reduces the human body's absorption of this mineral.
