Almost everyone has a box of baking soda in their kitchen cabinets, which is indispensable for cleaning. However, a worthy competitor has emerged: citric acid. This easily accessible chemical compound is extremely effective in the kitchen and bathroom.

Citric acid is an organic chemical compound that remains commonly used in our homes. It's traditionally utilized as an antioxidant in food, a component in medicines, and a cleaning agent. Let's focus on the latter function because this unassuming powder can revolutionize our daily chores.

It’s a natural, effective descaler

Citric acid is easily available in any store and is excellent for descaling. It can also be used in kettles. To remove limescale from a kettle, pour a sachet of citric acid inside, fill it with water, and bring it to a boil.

An important point: citric acid is harmless, edible, and poses no health risk. After using it, pour the water and rinse the kettle to remove any remaining limescale. The effect should last for quite some time.

This acid can also be used for descaling and unclogging drains and pipes. Simply pour a generous spoonful of citric acid into the drain (kitchen or bathroom) and pour warm or hot water over it. This procedure can be repeated if necessary. This way, we'll naturally eliminate lingering debris and unpleasant odours. It’s a very good alternative to many popular chemical agents.

Pour a spoonful into the drain. The effect will be immediate

In older buildings or with frequent drain clogs, citric acid treatment is worth performing regularly—once or twice a week. This solution will help prevent more complicated drain problems.

Citric acid can also be used to remove limescale from the toilet. Mix it with baking soda and pour it into the toilet bowl. Fill with hot water and leave for half an hour.

Another application is creating a paste from citric acid. Making it is very simple. Add a little water to the citric acid to achieve the right consistency. Then, it is applied to places covered with limescale. After half an hour, you can rinse it off and enjoy the cleanliness of your sanitary equipment.
