Fall and winter are seasons when colds and infections occur more frequently. Many people are searching for simple yet effective ways to strengthen the body's defence against viruses. One such method is consuming a remedy made from a common vegetable. What are its effects, and how do you make it? We offer some tips.

What are the benefits of consuming beets?

Why should you reach for beets? This vegetable is not only tasty but, most importantly, healthy. Regular consumption can help fight anemia thanks to its high iron content. Additionally, the presence of vitamins A, C, and E, along with minerals such as magnesium and potassium, supports the body's immunity, which is especially important during the colder months.

Beets are also an excellent source of antioxidants. These compounds protect our bodies from the harmful effects of free radicals, which contribute to cell aging and the development of cancer.

How to prepare beet syrup?

Making homemade beet syrup is quite simple and doesn't require extensive culinary skills. You only need a few ingredients. Beets, the main ingredient of the syrup, should ideally be sourced from organic farming to ensure the best quality. For the syrup, you'll also need honey, which acts as a natural preservative and enhances the beet's effects. You can also add lemon, which, due to its high vitamin C content, aids in the absorption of iron found in beets, making the syrup even more effective.

How to make beet syrup? Wash the beets, peel them, and cut them into small cubes. Place the chopped beets in a glass jar and cover them with honey. It's important that the honey evenly coats all the beet pieces. Then, seal the jar tightly and store it in a cool place for about 24 hours. After this time, the beets will release juice, which becomes the base of the syrup.

How to consume beet syrup?

It's recommended to take two tablespoons daily, preferably in the morning and evening. This dose is sufficient to support immunity and provide the body with essential nutrients. If cold symptoms appear, the dose can be increased to four tablespoons a day, which may help fight the infection faster.

What else does beet syrup work on? Besides supporting immunity, the syrup helps with expectoration, soothes a sore throat and hoarseness, and supports the function of the upper and lower respiratory tracts.

For which type of cough can beet syrup be used? This syrup alleviates symptoms of both dry and wet coughs.

Thanks to its natural composition, the syrup can even be consumed by children over three years old who are not allergic to honey. It's an ideal solution for families who want to take care of their health naturally. Storing the syrup in the refrigerator keeps it fresh for about two weeks, so it's worth making regularly to always have some on hand during periods of increased illness risk.

What other benefits does drinking beet syrup bring?

Aside from its impact on immunity, beet syrup offers additional health benefits. Regular consumption of this mixture can support the digestive system because beets are rich in fibre, which helps improve digestion. They also have anti-inflammatory properties, which may help reduce inflammation.

The benefits of regularly consuming beet syrup, including improved skin condition due to the abundance of vitamins and minerals, are also included.
