Biden considers stepping down amid mounting party pressure
According to reports from "The New York Times," President Joe Biden is slowly beginning to accept that he may be unable to win the election on November 5th and may have to withdraw from the race.
One person closely associated with the president, quoted by the "NYT," stated that "it would not be a surprise" if President Biden withdraws from the candidacy soon and suggests Vice President Kamala Harris take his place, representing the Democratic Party in the election.
Meanwhile, "The Washington Post," citing its sources within the Democratic Party, reports that former Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi expressed conviction that President Biden can be persuaded to withdraw from the race for the presidential seat. According to "The Washington Post," Pelosi believes that Biden is already close to making such a decision.
The Axios portal, based on information from several leading Democrats, reports that growing pressure from party leaders and close friends may prompt President Biden to withdraw from the presidential race, possibly as soon as this weekend.
Are Democrats in a bind?
Leaders of the Democratic Party fear that if Biden remains the party's candidate, it could end in an overwhelming victory for Donald Trump and "wipe away Biden's legacy." Axios reports that it "has been rising to unbearable levels."
Despite these reports, President Biden's campaign team maintains that the president "is absolutely not considering stepping down" and "has made his decision" to remain in the race. National Security Council spokesman John Kirby assures that despite being diagnosed with a COVID-19 infection on Wednesday, President Biden will meet with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu next week.
