Bay leaves offer numerous beneficial properties. Aside from being a key ingredient in various dishes, they can also be used in home aromatherapy. They are commonly included in natural remedies that support the body in fighting infections and can even aid in weight management.

Why is it worth combining bay leaves with apples?

Although the combination of bay leaves with apples might seem unusual, it yields excellent results due to the properties of these two ingredients. Bay leaves are rich in vitamins A, C, and the B-group, in addition to minerals like iron, potassium, selenium, magnesium, and zinc. Scientists from the Medical University in Iran have found that bay leaves help reduce fat tissue, have anti-stress effects, and bolster immunity. Apples, on the other hand, are loaded with phytonutrients that effectively combat free radicals and support vision.

Preparing a decoction of bay leaves and apples

Ingredients:

  • 4 dried bay leaves,
  • 1 apple,
  • 1 litre of water,
  • 1 stick of cinnamon.

Preparation method:

  1. Wash the apple and divide it into four parts, removing the seed cores and seeds.
  2. Bring the water to a boil in a pot, then add the bay leaves and simmer for 5 minutes.
  3. Add the apple and cinnamon stick to the water and cook, covered, for another 10 minutes.
  4. Strain the drink through a sieve.

How to use the decoction?

The decoction of bay leaves and apples is best consumed before bedtime. The treatment should last no more than two weeks. It's important to monitor the body's reactions and, if any concerning symptoms arise, to discontinue use and consult a doctor. Pregnant women, breastfeeding mothers, and individuals on anticoagulants or diabetes medication should avoid this treatment.
