Argentine president deletes Zelensky photo amid controversy

Argentina's President Javier Milei updated his account on platform X. Following Friday's incident at the White House, the Argentine deemed censorship necessary and removed a photograph from his social media that linked him with Ukraine's President Volodymyr Zelensky.

In the photograph, the Argentine president stands alongside the Ukrainian president. Both leaders make a hopeful gesture.

The meeting took place in December 2023. President Volodymyr Zelensky traveled to South America for the first time since Vladimir Putin invaded his country. He participated in the inauguration of Javier Milei, who was elected to the presidency.

The President of Argentina does not want this photo. He removed it from the social media platform

This is likely when the photograph was taken. Both leaders indicate that everything will turn out well, as evidenced by their thumbs up.

The President of Argentina likely no longer sees it that way. Since January, it has been known that he has been significantly influenced by Donald Trump. He is considering copying the moves of the US president, who fascinates him.

Argentina might leave the WHO and withdraw from the Paris Climate Agreement. At the end of January, the Argentine biweekly "Perfil" reported on its website, citing sources from Milei's office, that the government plans to "take advantage of the momentum given by Trump's victory" in the US elections to "regain sovereignty."

The photo with Zelensky disappeared from the Argentine's account after Friday's misunderstanding in the Oval Office. Javier Milei refused to comment on his decision.

This is not the first time the President of Argentina has had to make swift corrections, which will remain on the internet forever. In February, he published a post on platform X, encouraging investments in the newly created "Libra" token.

The value of the cryptocurrency quickly rose and then began to plummet. Collectively, investors who trusted the Argentine president lost nearly CAD 136 million. Milei promptly removed the post at that time, but the scandal surrounding the "Libra" token damaged his image.
