The Android Auto 13.0 code analysis reveals a new feature coming soon to cars. Developers have prepared the system for the launch of third-party dialer app support. This is promising news for Android Auto users who aren't fond of the Phone app.

Android Auto isn't just for car navigation and music playback, like Google Maps and Spotify. Voice control, with an emphasis on the hands-free system for making phone calls, is also key. Since its inception, Android Auto has supported calls using only the Phone app from "bare Android." However, this may soon change.

As noted by Android Authority, based on the APK code analysis of the latest Android Auto 13.0, there are indications in the system that suggest preparations for supporting third-party dialers. In practice, this will mean that Android Auto will allow calls to be made somewhat differently than before, affecting both the functionality of the "calling app" and its interface.

Currently, it's difficult to estimate when support for additional dialers will appear on car screens. As we know from experience, Android Auto is updated mainly server-side, meaning the deployment of the new option may not coincide with the release of the next version of the app updated on users' phones. Often, new options are enabled for users using the latest or one of the newest releases of Android Auto.

Soon, we also anticipate the activation of a new feature for managing "local media" in cars. This involves controlling FM radio or playing music stored on the car's hard drive or when a USB drive is connected. The latest release of Android Auto 13.0 confirms that the feature is being developed in the background, and we will likely see it activated in the coming weeks or months.
