Cameras captured the moment of the earthquake in Los Angeles. The 4.7 magnitude tremor was felt across a large area of Southern California.

Disturbing reports from Los Angeles reveal the city experienced an earthquake early Monday afternoon.

According to the "Los Angeles Times", the tremors were felt over a large area of Southern California.

Los Angeles was at the epicentre of the 4.7 magnitude tremor. The shocks occurred near the Highland Park district, just a few miles north of downtown Los Angeles.

Everything was captured on cameras

In one of the recordings that surfaced online, the moment of the earthquake is seen during a live broadcast.

In another recording, a train is seen coming to a sudden halt during the tremor.

Authorities warn residents

Although preliminary information indicates no data on casualties or possible damages, all services have been dispatched to assess the aftermath of the tremors.

The Los Angeles Police Department warns residents to "be prepared for aftershocks" following the "significant" earthquake.

According to Cal Tech officials, the probability of an aftershock of magnitude 5.0 or higher within the next week is less than 10 percent.

U.S. Geological Survey data shows that Monday's earthquake was preceded in the past 24 hours by foreshocks of 1.7 and 1.3 magnitude.
