2025: A year of destiny for Russia under the Year of the Snake

The third year of Russia's war with Ukraine is starting, and the conflict's resolution remains uncertain. Journalists from Finland's "Iltalehti" predict a breakthrough in 2025, basing their speculation on a Chinese omen that is unfavourable to Russians. Why might the Year of the Snake be revolutionary?

Experts are unable to foresee how the war between Russia and Ukraine will conclude. Some believe that a turning point could be Donald Trump's return to power in the U.S.

The Finns have taken their speculation a step further by examining the history of Chinese omens. Journalists from "Iltalehti," cited by "Super Express," analyzed the traditional calendar of China. Historically, the Year of the Snake, which starts on January 29, has not been favourable for Russians.

The year 2025, according to the Chinese calendar, is the Year of the Snake. Whether by coincidence or not, this year has often meant catastrophe for Russia's eastern neighbour in the past, say Finnish commentators, quoted by "Super Express."

Does the Chinese Year of the Snake signal the end of Putin? Finnish journalists speculate

Journalists from "Iltalehti" have cited many events unfavourable for Russia that occurred during the Year of the Snake. In 1881, Alexander II was assassinated. In 1905 and 1907, Russian revolutions took place.

In 1941, Nazi Germany attacked the Soviet Union, and in 1953, Joseph Stalin died. Revolutionary events also occurred in 1989, when the Eastern European communist bloc collapsed.

Finnish commentators wonder whether 2025 might likewise prove unfavourable and revolutionary from Russia's perspective. They note that the world will certainly face significant changes if Donald Trump is elected President of the U.S.

They also add that Vladimir Putin should be cautious, not only because of the upcoming Year of the Snake. Journalists from "Iltalehti" remind us that public dissatisfaction is growing in Russia due to a declining standard of living.
