The President of Ukraine, Volodymyr Zelensky, travelled to the USA five weeks before the presidential elections there, preparing for possible peace negotiations with Russia, according to the Spanish newspaper "El Pais".

After two and a half years of conflict with the Kremlin, Ukraine is reaching the limits of its capabilities, facing winter with severe limitations in electricity supplies due to Russian strategic bombings, the newspaper noted.

As the newspaper emphasized, in addition to growing losses, external pressure to start negotiations is also increasing, during which Kyiv may be forced to make "painful concessions".

Therefore, Zelensky decided to travel to the USA to "prepare for the worst," such as Donald Trump's re-election as president. In case of a Democratic victory, with Kamala Harris as the candidate, Kyiv "hopes for the swiftest possible end to the war," predicts El Pais.

The war, reaching a stalemate on the battlefield, is at its most dangerous point. The future of Ukraine and all of Europe will be uncertain if its allies simply give in to the aggressor's blackmail, the Spanish newspaper warned.

Zelensky will not give up security and sovereignty

During his stay overseas, Zelensky participated, among other things, in a UN General Assembly session, met with US presidential candidates, and presented his "victory plan" in talks with American authorities.

According to "El Pais" the President of Ukraine is well aware of the specifics of negotiations, in which each side must make concessions, but he will not give up the security and sovereignty of his country.
