Zelensky optimistic as Trump ushers in era of 'peace through strength'
The inauguration of Donald Trump as President of the USA marks a day of change and hope for addressing numerous issues, including global ones, as assessed by Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky. He suggested that the stated policy of peace through strength offers a chance for achieving lasting and just peace.
"Congratulations to President Donald Trump and the American nation on the inauguration! It’s a day of change and hope for resolving many issues, including global challenges," wrote Zelensky on platform X.
Zelensky noted that Donald Trump has always been a decisive politician, "and his policy of peace through strength offers a chance to bolster American leadership and achieve lasting and just peace - that's the most important."
The Ukrainian president emphasized that the events of this century are being decided right now. He called for cooperation to make it "a wonderful and successful century for democracy, not for those who wish us defeat."
"Good luck, President Trump! We eagerly anticipate our active and mutually beneficial cooperation. Together, we are stronger and can ensure greater security, stability, and economic growth for the world and our citizens," Zelensky emphasized.
Putin has already commented on Trump's inauguration
Vladimir Putin spoke on Tuesday about Donald Trump's inauguration as President of the USA with members of Russia's Security Council. He stated that he expects "dialogue" with Washington on equal terms and assured that Moscow will continue to "fight for Russia's interests" in the conflict with Ukraine.
At the Security Council meeting, the head of the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Sergey Lavrov, assured that Trump considers the issue of the conflict in Ukraine as "one of the priority directions" of his foreign policy. Putin remarked that Trump and his associates talk about "the desire to resume direct contacts with Russia" and "the necessity to do everything possible to avoid World War III"; however, he did not provide specifics.
According to statements conveyed by the government agency TASS, the Kremlin leader congratulated Trump on taking office, commending him for his "courage" and "a convincing victory" in last year's US presidential elections.
