Trump's inauguration: Controversy over oath-handling mishap
As noted by American media, Donald Trump's inauguration ceremony was conducted in a hurried manner, leading to several minor mishaps. Attentive viewers focused on the precise moment of the oath. Did Donald Trump forget to place his left hand on the Bible while taking it?
The focal point of Monday's ceremony at the Capitol was when Donald Trump took the oath.
Following this, he officially became the 47th president of the United States.
The media circulated recordings and photographs that caused some disquiet.
As reported by NBC, similar to 2017, Trump took the oath using Lincoln's Bible and another Bible that belonged to his mother.
The president raised his right hand and began the oath before his wife, Melania, had a chance to raise both Bibles. It's unclear if he placed his hand on them at any point during the ceremony.
"It looks like he forgot to place his left hand on the Bible," writes RMF FM correspondent Paweł Żuchowski, who covered the inauguration.
It should be noted that during the previous inauguration in 2017, Donald Trump took the oath on two Bibles. In photos from that ceremony, his hand is clearly seen resting on the books held by his wife.
What's next? Nothing
Whether Trump placed his left hand on the Bible or not is ultimately inconsequential, as NBC clarifies.
The U.S. Constitution states that "no religious text shall ever be required as a qualification to any office or public trust under the United States."
The Constitution mandates only that the elected president, in this case, Trump, takes the oath and recites specific words.
The remaining elements of the ceremony depend on the participants.
