The President of Ukraine, Volodymyr Zelensky, expressed his view that the policy of the new U.S. administration under the leadership of Donald Trump could expedite the conclusion of the war. In an interview with Ukrainian public radio, Zelensky stressed that there is no question of concessions to Russia.
Zelensky pointed out that Trump's approach to the conflict aligns with promises made to the American public. "Certainly, with the policies of this team that will now lead the White House, the war will end faster," Zelensky stated in an interview with Ukrainian public radio.
The Ukrainian president emphasized that in a phone conversation with Trump following his election victory, the U.S. president-elect listened to Ukraine's stance on the war with Russia. "I didn't hear anything that contradicted our position," Zelensky added.
Is the U.S. pressuring Ukraine? "The 'sit and listen' rhetoric doesn't work"
Zelensky emphasized Ukraine's sovereignty when asked about the possibility of U.S. pressure on Ukraine to engage in negotiations with Russia. He highlighted that Ukraine is an independent state and has shown throughout the conflict that a passive approach does not align with its stance.
The President of Ukraine emphasized the importance of a just peace for his nation, ensuring its citizens' well-being without sacrificing its most valuable individuals to unfairness. He stated that while the war will eventually end, the exact timing remains uncertain.
Following Trump's victory, there were suggestions that the new U.S. administration may pressure Kyiv concerning territorial concessions to Moscow. However, Ukrainian authorities firmly oppose such solutions.
