Windows 11 update: New feature restores file Explorer tabs

With update KB5046733, Windows 11 has gained some interesting new features. Among them is the ability to restore File Explorer tabs in a way comparable to recently used tabs in a web browser. However, this option is somewhat hidden in the settings of the test version of Windows 11.

The website Windows Latest highlights new features after the KB5046733 update in Windows 11. A key change that will delight File Explorer users is the ability to remember a specific tab layout when browsing multiple folders. After the update is installed, Windows 11 allows users to activate the option to restore the tab layout after restarting Explorer. Practically, this function works similarly to how a web browser remembers tab layouts.

To use this new option for remembering the File Explorer layout in Windows 11, you need to activate restoring app windows after logging back into the system. This means the system will not only remember which apps were previously opened, but the tab layout will also be recalled, particularly in the case of Explorer. This allows users to continue working with, for example, several open directories simultaneously.

This new option is available only to Windows 11 testers in the Insider program who have installed build 22635.4580. Although the details are not yet known, this feature will likely soon be included in the stable version of Windows 11 in one of the cumulative Moment updates.

In the context of Windows updates, it's worth noting that Windows 10 will soon lose security updates. The deadline is October of next year, so it might be a good time to consider whether you should update your computer, buy a new one, or look into purchasing additional support from Microsoft to maintain the full security of your operating system.
