Orban's ambitious vision: Reshaping EU alliances amid Trump's win
The Hungarian daily "Magyar Nemzet" published an interview with Prime Minister Viktor Orban on Tuesday, in which the head of the government summarized the past year. In it, Orban claims that Budapest can boast good relations with a number of world leaders, including Donald Trump and Vladimir Putin.
Regarding international relations, the head of the Hungarian government stated that his country holds an important position on the geopolitical map of Europe and the world. "The goal of a healthy-minded country's foreign policy is to make friends. The more countries there are worldwide that have an interest in Hungary's success, the better," said Orban, who also referred to Donald Trump's victory in the American presidential elections, stating that the president is very fond of Hungary.
In the newspaper's pages, Orban argues that Budapest can also boast good relations with other world leaders. "The Chinese president has visited two European Union countries: France and us. Turkey's president is our friend, Russia's president is a correct partner, and Israel's prime minister is also a good friend," he declared. According to the Hungarian prime minister, the key is to manage these relationships in a way that brings the greatest benefits to Budapest.
Orban sees hope for the EU in Trump's victory
In turn, Viktor Orban associates hope with Donald Trump's victory in terms of changing the balance of power in the European Union. "Since the fall of Communism in 1990, a new kind of political struggle has emerged in the Western world. Liberals are building a global government and a progressive world order, while patriots advocate for a world order based on nation-states," said the head of the Hungarian government.
He also stated that thanks to Trump's victory, European patriots have a chance to change their fate. However, to make this possible, it is necessary to unite the forces of national parties throughout the Community. "We have a military plan, so to speak, for cooperating with European conservatives and for demonstrating to members of the European People's Party that genuine Christian democratic conservatism and tradition lie with the patriots - not with them," Orban announced.
Orban: We want to take over the management of the European Commission
He also explained his goals within the European Union. "First, we will reshape Europe's map of political parties, and then we aim to take control of the European Commission through a parliamentary majority. These are our ambitions," he added.
Looking to the future, Viktor Orban expressed his conviction that the coming year will be good for Hungary and the world, especially since, in his opinion, the conflict in Ukraine will come to an end. "The war will end in 2025, either through a peace negotiation or because one of the warring parties is destroyed," Orban assessed.
