Wicked part two: Cinematic magic returns in 2025

"Wicked" has unexpectedly taken over the pop culture world; even better, the musical's dominance continues over a month after its premiere. We're starting to learn more details about the next part of the adaptation of this Broadway classic.

The premieres of "Wicked" and "Gladiator" may not have created another Barbenheimer, but the cinematic debut of the musical certainly made an impact. Specifically, it opened stage productions to audiences who weren't previously inclined to enjoy them and likely... initiated a trend of bringing classic theatre productions to the big screen. Once again, and with grandeur, featuring a huge budget, big stars, and actors who, at long last, can truly sing. Because that’s what musicals are all about.

"Wicked" is not just about Ariana Grande's outstanding performance (seriously, I was in a state of shock) or the brilliant Cynthia Erivo. It also showcases Jonathan Bailey, who had the entire audience (a notably diverse crowd) swooning in unison, Jeff Goldblum (is anyone surprised by Elphaba’s mum? Please...), and, of course, the original Glinda and Elphie from Broadway: Idina Menzel and Kristin Chenoweth. It has great songs, beautiful production, loads of pop culture references (did you catch the one for "Shrek"?), and for dessert: the conspiracy theory of Robbie Williams and his cameo as a flying monkey. It’s divine. And extremely queer, which is just an added bonus.

The film turned out to be a gigantic hit, and the creators, seemingly anticipating its impact, immediately announced a second part. The next installment of "Wicked" will be released in 2025.

"Wicked: For Good" with an official release date!

The first part begins with joyful news—the Wicked Witch of the West is dead! However, we don't witness Elphaba's demise on screen; instead, we see her triumphant escape, embodying great hope, and hear a moving, heart-wrenching duet with Glinda.

The ultimate showdown between the "friends" and the Wizard is yet to come, and Universal has already decided to lift the curtain slightly and reveal the exact release date for "Wicked: For Good." Unfortunately, fans will have to wait almost a year for the film. The second part of the musical will premiere on November 21, 2025.
