Why the direction your doors open could save your life

Doors are one of those essential parts of a home that should be both beautiful and functional. Little attention is typically paid to the direction in which they open. It turns out that this seemingly inconsequential detail could save your life.

Owning a home is a dream for many people. Nowadays, very few can afford to buy one, so a mortgage seems to be a necessity. When we finally get the keys to our place, we want to decorate it exactly how we like. Although most of us pay attention to details, few consider how the doors should open.

Which way should doors open? It's more important than you think

The list of things needed when decorating a home seems endless: walls, floors, wallpapers, furniture, curtains, and accessories. Doors are among the essential elements of interior design.

We focus on their form, colour, or craftsmanship without considering which way they should open. This aspect is more important than you might think. It especially applies to the bathroom, which is very warm and humid. In such conditions, fainting is not uncommon.

For this reason, bathroom doors should open outward. If they were to open inward, a person lying inside could obstruct access to the room. This idea is also worth applying to children's rooms, as kids often lock themselves in "for fun." This way, we can easily open the doors even if they get stuck.

What should you do if doors open inward? The most sensible choice is to replace the door with a new one. This time, make sure that the hinges are on the outside.

How to choose doors for your home?

Shops offer dozens of different models in various patterns and colours. The question remains: How do you choose doors that match your interior design? If you want harmonious decor, choose doors that are similar in texture and colour to the floors, not the walls. After all, walls can always be repainted, while replacing the floor is much more expensive.
