Unrelenting heatwave grips Italy: Thirteen cities on high alert
Another African anticyclone has moved over Italy, which will bring temperatures above 40 degrees Celsius in the coming days. A heatwave will engulf the entire country, meteorologists predict.
As of Monday, the intense heat was already prevailing in many regions. It will be even more felt on Tuesday, when the second orange level of alert in the three-level scale will be in effect, among others, in Rome, Latina, and Perugia.
Alert in thirteen cities
On Wednesday, the Orange Alert will be extended to 13 cities, including Palermo, Bologna, and Trieste. The Ministry of Health announces this alert.
The temperatures in the Eternal City and Florence will reach 38 degrees Celsius, and in Sardinia and Sicily, from 40 to 43 degrees Celsius.
The heat will persist at least until Thursday.
Due to the high temperatures, doctors urge not to forget proper body hydration and to avoid leaving the house during the hottest hours.
Tourists are not following recommendations
As Italian media have observed in previous years, both individual tourists and tour groups usually do not follow recommendations to avoid being outdoors during the hottest part of the day. Italians emphasize that it is rare for tours to adjust their sightseeing programs to extraordinarily difficult weather conditions.
