The General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine has reported that Ukrainians destroyed a Russian Nebo-M radar using ATACMS missiles. This is a significant loss for Russia, as the cost of one such device is estimated at over CAD 135 million, and it was believed that the Russians had only ten active radars of this type remaining. Let's recall what the Nebo-M is and its capabilities.

Russians are facing another serious loss. According to the Ukrainian General Staff, Putin's army has lost an extremely valuable Nebo-M radar. Furthermore, Ukrainians believe that its destruction creates an "air corridor" for the effective use of Ukrainian Storm Shadow and SCALP-EG cruise missiles.

Russian Nebo-M radar - valuable

The Nebo-M radar is an advanced radar system used by the Russian armed forces, playing a key role in Russian air defence. The device operates in stealth mode, scanning the horizon for aerial objects. Its technologically advanced system uses complex algorithms to detect, track, and intercept aerodynamic and ballistic targets.

Russia has only ten such operational systems, each costing over CAD 135 million. The destruction of this station, therefore, weakens the Russian army's ability to monitor airspace effectively. This is especially significant as this radar is a crucial element in the Russian air defence system, as it facilitates the detection, tracking, and identification of aircraft, drones, and guided missiles.

Thanks to active electronically scanned array (AESA) technology, Nebo-M is capable of detecting and tracking targets at long distances. This system is exceptionally difficult to neutralize due to its advanced features and technology. Available data indicates that the radar can operate in a 360-degree range, which allows simultaneously monitoring of airspace from multiple directions. This makes the Nebo-M one of Russia's most modern radar systems.
