The tension between Turkey and Israel is escalating. After Recep Tayyip Erdogan threatened Israel with military intervention, the head of Israeli diplomacy responded. Israel Katz compared Erdogan to a deceased dictator.

"Erdogan follows in the footsteps of Saddam Hussein and threatens to attack Israel. Just let him remember what happened there and how it ended," wrote the Israeli Foreign Minister on social media.

The Israeli politician included a photo of Erdogan in dark sunglasses and a picture of Hussein after the Americans captured him.

Saddam Hussein was a longtime dictatorial president of Iraq who bombed Israeli territory during the Gulf War. After the American invasion in 2003, he was captured, tried for crimes against his citizens, and executed.

On Sunday, Erdogan spoke in Rize, his hometown. The Turkish leader assessed that his country should show strength in the face of Israel's actions in the Gaza Strip.

"We must be very strong so that Israel can't do these ridiculous things to Palestine. Just like we entered Karabakh, just like we entered Libya, we might do similar to them," he said.

"Who can guarantee that those who razed Gaza to ground today will not set their dirty eyes on Anatolia tomorrow?" asked the Turkish leader. Anatolia is a part of Turkey.
