Trump's rhetoric on Ukraine raises concerns over disinformation
Ukrainian media accuse Donald Trump of not understanding the situation in Ukraine, pointing to his rhetoric as being influenced by Russian disinformation. This is a reaction to the recent theses and accusations made by the U.S. president against Volodymyr Zelensky.
U.S. President Donald Trump has faced a wave of criticism from Ukrainian media after his recent statements about President Volodymyr Zelensky.
Let's recap: Trump called Zelensky a "dictator without elections" and suggested he should "act quickly, or he won't have a country." He also accused him of doing a "terrible job" as head of state and dragging the U.S. into a "war that he couldn't win." Earlier, he falsely claimed that Ukraine had started the war with Russia (and not the other way around, as was the case).
Criticism from Ukrainian media
The portal Suspilne, quoting Olha Aivazovska from the Opora organization, emphasized that "Trump's statement about a 4% approval rating for Zelensky shows his lack of understanding of the situation in Ukraine". Aivazovska noted that such statements result from disinformation spread by Russia.
The portal Ukrainska Pravda analyzed sociological studies that indicate "Ukrainians are completely opposed to holding any elections until the war is over and the country is provided with real security guarantees." According to the analysis, Zelensky enjoys almost 60% trust and has about 16-20% support in presidential rankings.
The impact of Trump's statements on the situation in Europe
The portal RBK-Ukraine assessed that Trump's actions, aimed at ending Russia's war against Ukraine in "turbo" mode, create problems not only for Ukraine but for all of Europe.
"Trump's statements may stem from his lack of understanding of the depth of the Russian-Ukrainian confrontation, in the broad sense of the word, or they may be part of (...) 'turbo tactics'. After all, this was the case with the 'end of the war in 24 hours.' At the same time, it poses additional challenges for Ukraine—not only due to the escalation of internal political confrontation but also in the context of (peace) negotiations," wrote RBK-Ukraine.
Trump's statements have sparked a wide discussion about his understanding of the situation in Ukraine and the influence of Russian disinformation on his rhetoric. Ukrainian media emphasize that such comments may have far-reaching consequences for international relations and regional stability.
