Trump's bold move: 25% tariffs on EU goods, including cars
The President of the United States, Donald Trump, announced on Wednesday that he will impose 25% tariffs on goods imported from the European Union. These tariffs are expected to affect, among other things, cars. "The European Union was created to deceive the United States," he stated.
"We've made a decision, and we will announce it soon, and it will generally be 25%, and it will concern cars and all things," Trump said when asked whether he will impose tariffs on goods from the EU.
The Republican stated that the European Union was established with the intent to mislead the United States, asserting that it has successfully done so. However, he emphasized that the situation has changed now that he is president.
Trump imposes tariffs
Imposing tariffs on other countries is Donald Trump's continuous strategy, as he already signed the decision to impose 25% tariffs on foreign steel and aluminum several days ago. These tariffs will affect all countries from which the US imports these two metals — including the European Union. No exceptions were planned.
While signing the documents, Trump described the moment as significant for restoring America's prosperity. He also stated that this would lead to the opening of many businesses across the United States.
As we noted at money.pl — the tariffs will affect all countries importing steel and aluminum without exception — including EU countries. As Politico emphasizes, Canada, Mexico, and the European Union are the largest suppliers of these metals to the USA. Imports from the EU amounted to approximately 3.8 million metric tonnes in 2023, compared to 4.0 million metric tonnes from Mexico and 9.4 million metric tonnes from Canada. From the European Union, the largest exporter of metals to the United States in 2023 was Germany (997,903 metric tonnes), the Netherlands (461,533 metric tonnes), and Italy (423,106 metric tonnes). Poland, in this regard, is far behind (6,804 metric tonnes).
