The Tesla Gigafactory in Grünheide, near Berlin, has been a source of significant controversy. Residents have vehemently opposed plans to expand the facility, raising concerns about pollution from the factory.

Despite obstacles and the authorities halting the expansion, Tesla is determined to continue its plans. This has led to protests, with activists joining in. The tension peaked in March 2024, when sabotage caused the factory to shut down for eight days.

A large demonstration was scheduled for May 10 at the factory's gates, prompting the workers to be sent home early. This proved a wise move as the protest, which attracted about 800 participants, quickly escalated.

In the evening, demonstrators attempted to breach the factory premises but were resisted by police. As reported by Reuters, clashes ensued, leading to injuries among some protesters, a fact confirmed by the police.

The demonstration primarily focused on the factory's expansion but highlighted issues with lithium mining, a critical component of battery production. Activists criticized the environmental damage caused by mining operations.
