The devastating fire occurred overnight on Freeman Street in Sydney. Emergency services, alerted by neighbours, quickly arrived on the scene but could not start putting out the fire.
According to local media, the father of seven children allegedly set the fire. Police believe the man intentionally prevented the responders from entering the burning house to rescue the children. He also reportedly stopped neighbours from assisting.
"Our dad tried to kill us," one of the children reportedly told rescuers.
Ultimately, firefighters broke down the doors, extinguished the fire, and carried the children out of the building. Unfortunately, three children did not survive. The youngest victim was only 10 months old. Firefighters fought for about 45 minutes to save the girl’s life but were unsuccessful. Two older boys, aged 3 and 6, died after being transported to Westmead Hospital.
A 9-year-old girl and boys aged 4, 7, and 11 survived the fire. The surviving siblings were also taken to Westmead Hospital along with their mother, who was poisoned by smoke. The woman is conscious and has been given sedatives.

Twenty-eight-year-old Dean Heasman was arrested. Since he was also injured in the fire, he was taken to the hospital under police supervision. Doctors placed the 28-year-old in a medically induced coma. According to the "Daily Mail," when emergency services arrived on the scene, the man was screaming to "let him die."
The family's neighbours are shocked by what happened. They claim that the family led a peaceful, happy life, and nothing foreshadowed such a tragedy.
